I really can't make updating promises since I don't seem to keep them. Here are some updated photos. The top one is like the bigfoot photo, blurry and you'll never see it again. This was taken on the one day he decided to crawl like a normal child, he still does his crab-walk scoot to get around. you'll see by the bottom pictures that he has turned into quite the little man. He loves the Wiggles, is a very picky eater, has an opinion and a quick temper and tends to yell at the top of his lungs at inappropriate times. All in all he's par for the course. in six days he'll be one. I'd say time really flew by, but since I can't remember what I did yesterday, I'm not a real reliable authority on time lapses.

Well He's now a little man. Carter took him in today to get his first official haircut. He feel he now needs to pop his collar because of his new found maturity. I think Carter was inspired after she took him swimming today and upon his hair drying proclaimed "we have a drunk looking little troll doll on our hands." Now he is quite the proper little man with a good looking tan.

Well it was pretty much downpour the entire time in Hawaii, so pictures were pretty scarce. Carter is currently in New York at a trade show; So my sister Brittney flew in to take care of Asher. It has been a bit on the chilly side lately, so Asher has begun to don the skull cap. Really these are just to appease the Grandparents.

Asher is soaking up the Aloha Spirit. These are some pictures Carter emailed me of him at Sunset Beach. She said he's got a real feel for the place. Tonight they are going to Rosie's Cantina in Halawiea. (sp) Yummm.... fried ice cream. You know you want some. I'm going over there in two days. I might have to take asher around like the dwight bobble head to visit all of the places that hold a memory for me. I will take requests. If there is a spot you want to see Asher, I'll try to make it happen. I really want to take him into the Caf for breakfast (you can't go wrong with all you can eat Captain crunch) Then to the Seasider for Chili and Rice. If he's lucky he might get to sit on the curb at Chevron with a Dr. Pepper. Why do all of my memories involve food? Gpa's Spoil the Boy

With Grandma and Grandpa Ellingson here for the last week, Asher has received round the clock attention and now he demands it even when they are gone. He took a special liking to Grandpa and appreciated Grandma always being ready with the bottle and blended peas. They were life savers for us as Carter was in the Bay area visiting Tarah's twin arrivals. Good Luck Evans. Now that Asher has been more spoiled than ever, we're not taking the foot off the pedal. The Smith Side of Gradparentdom arrive today and whoosh him away to Hawaii in about two days. I get to stay home with the dogs for the first four days, then will catch up with them at Turtle Bay.

As pertaining to the Christmas cards, Asher was not Photoshoped in. Sandy and Carter actually had quite the photo shoot with him and he now uses the outfit as a conversation starter. He can't stay in it too long as Buckley thinks he's a stuffed animal and tries to drag him around by the hat.

Asher had a day at the Long Beach Aquarium sans dad. As you can see he enjoyed is time and really felt at one with the fish. At the petting tank you can see a sting ray took special liking to him and he would have no objections in going back. He doesn't usually wear his shirt so open at the top, two buttons down is a bit risque', but since he was trollin' with a couple cougars today, I guess he felt pretty confident.

When Carter wants to do something cute, like go to the aquarium; and I want to do something fun, like watch the Steelers/Patriots game; there is only one solution: JAIME.

Jaime is a rental parent, anytime you need a live body stand-in, you call JAIME; but do it a couple of weeks in advance as her appointment book fills up quickly. I'd like to thanks JAIME for standing in for me at the aquarium today as it looked like Asher had a great time. Now if I could only impress upon you to go with Carter to get and decorate our tree, that would be great.

He is Not a Ginger Kid!!!

To set the record straight, Asher does NOT have red hair. He does have a redline temper now that we are starting him on scheduled naps. HE used to be a cat napper, 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, now we are looking for a solid hour at set times. Ballistic. HE works himself into such a tizzy that he knocks out for two hours now, allowing Carter to get her work done. With new picture requests coming in, the best we could do was the 8 o'clock bath time. These are for my mom, since Sandy gets to see Asher tomorrow.

Well, Carter thought we'd go as a family to pick out a pumpkin. Those who know me know I don't give two rips about holidays or traditions. I mean today is a Tuesday, just like last week and just like next week. Carter assured me, that with Asher I'd need to learn the value of family time and traditions. So we went to the pumpkin patch and Asher was over it. Below are some pics from a less than excited boy picking out his first pumpkins. Of course once we got back in the car and headed for home, he was a happy clam. He feels my pain.

This is how I imagined my son. Loud, and with great hair. Carter has left me in charge of bathtime and I always will take the hair dryer to him. Needless to say, his hair has never had a problem standing up, although Carter revealed to me that this morning, He woke up with flat hair. I gues you have to enjoy great hair while you're young.

With Asher getting tired of the swing, Carter bought him a new jungle gym. He's starting to get adjusted to pulling things down, rather than just watching them float over his head. He's pretty flexible with his playing options.

We have now moved to nightly bathings. The decision was made due to the fact that Asher now loves to hold everything he can find and then proceed to put both hands in his mouth. Carter sees this as a problem, I see it as him building up his immunity for disease. After the bath he pretty much knocks out until his 10:30 feeding, here is the post bathtime rundown.

First ge's happy, because he loves the bath is still on a water high.

Next, he realizes he's in his crib naked and is a little confused why there is no water.

Third; I believe all of his pondering about why there is no water, makes him tired and he let's us know that eye coverage will be needed.

Last, it's sleepy time. He will stay just like this for the next two hours.

A yacht is a good thing

We had a high rollin' weekend, thanks to the Wilt family. We were able to take Asher out on a little cruise and stay the night on the Turbillon. The Dakoza's invited us and the Brown's to join them on Kristin's parent yacht. Needless to say it was a good time. Everyone has a child 13 months or less, so it was cool to see Asher's next stages. The Captain was very cool and let us fish off the boat at night and gave us many tours. The boat is meant as a tournament deep sea fishing vessel and is docked in San Diego awaiting a tournament in Mexico. With five bedrooms, 60" plasma, zodiac, gourmet kitchen, and a little kick boat, it's really meant to be a house. A really, really nice house. Here are some pictures of the boat.

Swimming Lessons

Not in a pool; at least not today. Asher goes nuts when he gets in the water. Every apendage shoots out and then splashes as much as possible. We had to move him from his tub next to the sink to Carter's deep tub due to the fact that his splashing pretty much soaks the entire kitchen. After he gets to cool down in his robes and enjoy some spa meditation as he looks at himself in his newly installed playpen mirror. Looking at himself is the only thing he likes more than TV.

With Football season around the corner, I needed to start training Asher to watch TV and figure out how he's be most comfortable. Carter started him out yesterday watching Baby Einstein and set up a little recliner seat for him. (As you can see, Minnie took her usual position for the show). He'll be ready by kickoff.

With Summer coming to an end, I will soon have to turn over my nanny responsibilities to someone who is more qualified. So today Asher and I went to the driving range. I made him work on some intimidating poses in case someone said he was not dressed Yuppie enough. The top picture is Asher holding back the rage. Of course he can't hold it in too long and starts to laugh when he realizes he is a Yuppie.

Food makes all the difference in this baby's demeanor. When it's getting to be feeding time, Asher turns very serious and concerned that his food may not satisfy his growing needs. (as seen in the top picture) This can also lead to him just losing it. Right after feeding, he kinda goes into a formula high. He just rides the cloud.

Carter's sister Tarah and her husband Erik came down for a couple of days. We had a really good time, Erik works for Pixar and so has full Disneyland access, he and I took advantage of that on Monday and made a full day of it. Tarah is pregenant with twins; so she and Carter took it a bit easier. They were able to spend some time by the pool and went to a mini-shower in Laguna.

He's moved from grappling to striking all within a week. He tried to clock Sophie earlier today and has decided that if he can mad dog people who bother him, it may not resort to fistacuffs. Like a cobra, he'll give you a warning by flexing. After that; it's on! As you can see he's a southpaw and leads with his right. I heard him tellings Sophie; "If you want to throw down fisticuffs, fine. I've got Jack Johnson and Tom O'Leary ready for ya." Next week we're going to move onto kicks.

With Chris just returning from South Africa (Yale choir concert tour), the grandparents decided to come on down. It's been great; especially since Carter and I can kill just about any landscaping we have in front of us. Chris took it upon himself to enlist Carter's help to improve our backyard. My favorite flowers in the back are our Gardenias (we haven't been able to kill them yet) They are my daily smell of Hawaii.

Every Day is a Costco Day

I never thought I would live within 15 minutes of four seperate Costco's. What I've learned over the last five years is that each Costco carries different items. Today Asher and I decided that we needed to get some new dog beds to line my room. From Blue Steel to Man of Steel

He's almost a month in and has decided to become very interactive. We're working on setting his body clock and getting him out in the sun. Lately he has decided that staying up with me to play video games at 2:00 a.m. is a good idea and sleeping in till noon is the only way he can do it. We're having a good time with him and both get about half the day to spend with him. From other's horror stories, we're lucky he has the disposition he does. Carter asked me if I felt my life has changed now that I'm a father. I had to think about it; I stay home, play video games, take the dogs for walks and leave the room when Carter watches Charm School. Nope, I pretty much live the same life I've had. So I can't complain. In fact it's even better, because now I have a built in excuse to stay home. (click on the pictures to enlarge)

Anyone who knows Carter would know this is a miniature version of her. Each day he picks up more of her features, even down to his nail beds. He kind of has the Donald Trump Thing going on with his hair, at 2 1/2 weeks that's not too bad.

When his mom is not around, Asher is getting a start in the industrial/punk music scene. You can see with his long legs and expansive wing span, he's going to do great in the pits. We listen to Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, NOFX, A Perfect Circle, Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie and the Pixies. His Naptime playlist includes, Elvis Costello, Smashing Pumpkins, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Bob Marley. His mom just lets him listen to Baby Einstein.

Sophie

She has been a real trooper with Asher around. For the first week she really held a grudge. She was even more confused when Sandy left and the baby stayed. She kinda figured they were a packaged deal. She's adapting better ever since she took a poop in the baby's room. I think that makes her feel like she got one up on him.

To be fair, Sandy was here first. Her pictures were on a camera we took to the hospital and just unpacked. Sandy was a huge help the first week in helping us get used to Asher and making sure the nurses did their jobs. She took most of our late night shifts and most importantly took care of the dogs. She fed them healthier food than my dad did. Instead of pizza, she fed them free range chicken. She has verified that our house is protected from radiation, aliens, and Swifters. We are hoping when Chris returns from South Africa he will be able to come down and teach the boy a thing or two about landscaping, since I have killed most out our vegitation.

The Grandparents

My parents were here for the last three days and we are really sorry to see them leave. My Mom is a pro with Asher and made it real easy for Carter and I to go places. My Dad occupied the dogs, determined that they should have other food than dog food, he supplied pizza, sandwiches, fries, chips, and anything he could sneak the dogs. They will miss him greatly.

Buckley the Lizard Hunter

When we first moved in, Buckley saw a lizard on the side of our wall. He has been so detrermined to get it, that everyday for the last four months, he waits under our rose tree for the lizard to show his face. Today he was sitting there for about two hours.

Usually we can catch Sophie before she gets into anything. Since Asher came out, it's been Viva' la revolution for Sophie. To do a good job, you need two people watching her at all times, now we're down to one, so she knows where we are at all times. Here she is finishing off some cereal. You can see in the back that Minnie could care less.

First Doctors Visit

Everything went great for his first doctor's visit. He was born one week ago at 8 lbs 10 oz and is weighing in at 8 lbs 13 1/2 ozs. The doctor was really proud of his eating. We're still in the honeymoon phase, since he sleeps about 22 hours out of the day. He only wakes up if he's hungry or has a dirty diaper. He sleeps pretty solid for four hour blocks and we've been waking him up to feed him if he goes past that. I think next week, we'll see how long he can go. He definitely puts out the waste. we gave up tracking pees after about 10 a day and he'll give you a solid 4-5 diapers full of poop. We couldn't be happier with the way he is acting. Carter is doing a great job as a mom and we're blessed to have a Kenmore Elite HE3t for laundry since it can hold twenty two full sized towels with each load, it makes laundry a bit more manageable. Here is a rare moment you will see the little man awake and not pooping or eating. (yes that is a pee mat he is on. He has the ability to pee out of the back of his diapers, so we have to always be ready.)

My sister just made a good point and I hate myself for missing it. As a baby he is in stage one of three. This is the "Ferrari" stage. By the age of five I'm hoping "La Tigre" will be evident. I can't even imgine when or if he will ever reach "Blue Steel".

First night home

The Little guy has survived the first wave of puppy attacks intact. Carter and her mom did a wonderful job keeping the dogs at bay and the baby safe. Of course when I got home I wanted to see if the dogs had any intrest in him and nearly sent the Carter and Sandy off the handle when Buckley tried to use Asher as a licking block. I thought it was cute. Them, not so much so.

You have to wonder sometimes, but his feet says he's all mine. I don't know of anyone else who looks like they were born with a vulture space between the first and second toe. He's breaking out a bit today and is looking to break out of his swaddling. He has healthy lungs and can scream at a supersonic level. I guess the italian genes won out against the scandinavian and I'll just have to be okay with that. I was stoked for about 5 minutes when I saw he had blue eyes, then the pediatrician explained to me that all baby's were born with blue eyes, some pigment deal. He'll probably have brown eyes and I guess I can accept that.

Carter had to have a C-section and is in recovery. She's tough, but this took a lot out of her.

It's going a little slower than it should

The Dr. is not excited about the progress of the baby. The baby is shutting down with the petrocin being put in, so the Dr. had to stop the petrocin and refill some of the fluid for extra cusion. If things do not go the way it should in the next few hours, they will have to consider a C-section. We're hoping he (the baby) gets a little more aggressive.

can't feel a thing

epidural is in and now we wait. Carter says she can't feel a thing, so now she's getting bored.

Broke the water

it seems like things are moving quickly, but the doctor assured us it would still be a while. They broke her water, and have her on oxygen for the the baby's heartbeat, he's still just kinda laying around. The epidural is next, so we'll have to wait to see what the boy wants to do.

The doctor just came in to remove the folley balloon, and is looking to break the water to help regulate the contractions. Dr. Adele means buisness. SHe's watching Walker, TExas Ranger for inspiration. Chuck Norris can help anyone through the pain.

Those were Carters words as she slipped into a pain killer euphoria. That lasted for about 15 minutes. The doctor should be in by noon to look at breaking that water. They just flipped Carter back over and informed her she couldn't drink any water. "You don't want to be vommiting and giving birth at the same time do you?" That pretty much convinced her she wasn't thirsty.

The baby is sunnyside up

Well the nurse came in and said the delivery is going to be a long one, because the baby is sunny-side up. I guess he's facing the wrong way. Giving her back pain. Carter just heard it was going to be a long labor and I think she shut everything else out. They just flipped her and are opening up the petrocin. We're just waiting for the doctor to come back in.

We're in the hospital

we got here at 7:00 a.m. I went and grabbed some biscuits and gravy in the cafeteria. If you're ever at Saddleback women's hospital on a monday, the biscuits and gravy are the special and they were sooo good. It's tough to find good biscuits and gravy. Wel the have the Petrocin (sp) drip in and said the party should get started in the next few hours. Everything is going well, the doctors said Carter looks good and the baby is in the right spot and healthy.

After a good many discussions, I had to drop the desire to name our son Chaos and we have settled with Asher (it's biblical). He should be here Monday June 11th. (they're inducing, that's why I can say he'll be here Monday). The doctor said the boy loves the room service sooo much he just doesn't want to come out. Now that's an Ellingson if ever there was one. As per requests, we'll post some pictures of the room real soon. Thanks to everyone for the gifts, the puppies loved them.

Guitar Hero II is awwwwesome!!!

Even if you don't like video games, this game may sway you. Most everyone dreams of being a rock star... this is about as close as you'll get. Of course this gives you a false sense of pride, since after you complete some songs, you actally think you can play the guitar. Trust me, if you couldn't play a guitar before, even after this, you still won't be able to. You couldn't believe how much fun this is and it's not near as embarassing as dance dance revolution, so you don't need to be a closet gamer. Great Set List, Great Graphics, Super Fun Play- Everyone needs this game.

This is our little neurotic girl. She doesn't really like to leave the couch and avoids people as much as she can. My dad said it best; "She does as good as she can with what God gave her". I can't argue with him about that.
